TESTING & ASSESSMENTS

Understanding what your hair may be responding to starts with gathering the right information.

Melissa combines detailed hair and scalp assessments with additional testing when appropriate to explore possible internal, lifestyle, and scalp-related factors contributing to your concerns.

Why Testing Matters

What you see in the mirror is only one part of the picture.

Hair loss and excessive shedding can be influenced by many different factors, including genetics, hormones, nutrition, stress, medications, illness, weight changes, and the condition of the scalp. Because several concerns can look similar on the surface, Melissa begins by collecting information rather than immediately recommending a treatment.

Testing and assessments help create a more complete picture of what may be affecting your hair, which factors may need further investigation, and what kind of support may be appropriate.

Beacon AI Hair & Scalp Imaging

A detailed visual baseline for your hair and scalp

Beacon AI Imaging allows Melissa to capture detailed images of different areas of your scalp and take a closer look at changes that may not be obvious in the mirror.

The imaging is used to evaluate visible factors such as hair density, spacing between follicles, areas of reduced fullness, and the general condition of the scalp. These images also document where you are at the beginning of the process.

  • WHAT IT CAN HELP MELISSA EVALUATE

    • Differences in density throughout the scalp

    • Spacing between visible hair follicles

    • Areas where thinning appears more concentrated

    • Visible scalp conditions or buildup

    • Changes between your initial and future appointments

  • WHY A BASELINE MATTERS

If you begin a treatment plan, Melissa can repeat the imaging at future appointments and compare it with your original images. This creates a more consistent way to monitor visible changes instead of relying only on memory or how the hair feels from day to day.

  • WHAT TO EXPECT

The imaging is noninvasive and should not be painful. Melissa will section your hair and capture images from different areas while explaining what she sees.

A closer look at the environment surrounding your hair

The CRLAB TricoTest uses magnified imaging and specialized assessment tools to evaluate the condition of your hair and scalp. It helps Melissa look more closely at factors such as sebum, hydration, buildup, irritation, inflammation, and other visible imbalances.

This matters because the scalp is the environment where your hair grows. Excessive buildup, oil imbalance, dryness, or irritation may need to be addressed as part of your overall plan.

CRLAB TricoTest

  • WHAT IT CAN HELP MELISSA EVALUATE

    • Differences in density throughout the scalp

    • SpaSebum and oil balance

    • Hydration and dryness

    • Product or environmental buildup

    • Visible irritation or inflammation

    • The condition of the scalp around the follicles

    • Areas that may benefit from targeted scalp care

  • WHAT TO EXPECT

Melissa will move a specialized imaging device across different areas of your scalp. You will be able to view the magnified images while she explains her observations in clear, everyday language.

  • HOW THE RESULTS MAY BE USED

Based on the findings, Melissa may recommend CRLAB Scalp Therapy, changes to your at-home routine, specific scalp-care products, additional testing, or monitoring the area over time.

additional testing

Investment: $375

The Epigenetic Hair Test uses a small hair sample to provide information about potential nutritional, environmental, and lifestyle factors that may be placing stress on the body. It allows Melissa to explore the bigger picture when your hair and scalp concerns may involve more than what can be seen through imaging alone.

This test may be recommended when Melissa believes additional information could help guide your next steps or identify areas worth discussing with an appropriate healthcare provider.

Epigenetic Hair Test

  • WHAT THE PROCESS LOOKS LIKE

    1. Melissa collects the required hair sample.

    2. The sample is submitted for analysis.

    3. Results are typically available within 7 to 10 business days.

    4. Melissa meets with you to review the report.

    5. Your results are used to guide personalized lifestyle, nutritional, or referral recommendations.

  • IMPORTANT DISTINCTION

The Epigenetic Hair Test is intended to provide wellness information. It does not diagnose diseases, medical conditions, allergies, or nutritional deficiencies, and it does not replace medical testing or care.

Looking more closely at factors that may require medical testing

In some cases, hair loss or shedding may be connected to factors that cannot be evaluated through a hair and scalp assessment. Melissa may recommend functional blood testing to explore areas such as thyroid function, ferritin and iron status, vitamin D, or hormones when appropriate.

These results may help identify areas that deserve further evaluation and allow the appropriate healthcare provider to determine whether medical treatment or supplementation is needed.

Functional Blood Testing

  • POTENTIAL AREAS OF TESTING

    • Thyroid markers

    • Ferritin and iron status

    • Vitamin D

    • Hormonal markers

    • Other relevant markers based on the client’s history

  • COST INFORMATION

When Melissa determines that functional blood testing is appropriate, there is no additional consultation upcharge from Melissa. Any laboratory, medical-provider, or insurance-related charges should be explained separately based on how the testing is ordered.

How Melissa chooses what to recommend

More testing is not always better. The right testing is what matters.

Melissa considers your hair and scalp assessment, when your concerns began, how they have progressed, your health history, medications, lifestyle, stress, nutrition, and any recent changes within your body.

She will only recommend additional testing when she believes the information could help clarify your next step. If your concerns require medical diagnosis or treatment, Melissa will recommend working with an appropriate licensed healthcare provider.

what happens after testing

Information becomes useful when you understand what to do with it.

Melissa will review your findings with you, explain what they may indicate, and help organize the next steps. Depending on the results, your plan may include scalp therapy, plasma therapy, at-home care, lifestyle recommendations, monitoring, or follow-up with a medical professional.

Testing does not automatically mean that you will need treatment. Its purpose is to help replace guesswork with more informed decisions.

You do not need to know exactly what you need before you come in.

Your first visit is where we begin looking at the full picture. Melissa will listen to your concerns, evaluate your hair and scalp, explain what she sees, and help you understand what your next steps could look like.
